Sardar Usman Ahmad Khan Buzdar was born in May 1969 in the Dera Ghazi Khan region and belongs to the Buzdar tribal family of Barthi and Tuman Buzdar.

He is the eldest son of Sardar Fateh Muhammad Khan Buzdar, who was himself a three-time Member of the Punjab Assembly and Tumandar of the Buzdar tribe. His father died in April 2019 while Usman Buzdar was serving as Chief Minister of Punjab.

Usman Buzdar received his early education in his native area of Barthi and later continued his education in Multan. He studied at Emerson College Multan and subsequently obtained an LLB and Master's degree in Political Science from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan.

Professionally, he has been described as an advocate and agriculturist/landholder. His legal education also enabled him to practice law, including work at consumer courts.

Usman Buzdar grew up in the tribal area of Dera Ghazi Khan, where the Buzdar family has traditionally held an influential tribal position.

His early schooling began in Barthi, his family's native area. He later attended school and college in Taunsa Sharif and Multan.

His background in a relatively remote tribal region became an important part of his political identity. When he was nominated for Chief Minister in 2018, his supporters emphasized the lack of basic infrastructure and public facilities in his native area.
